Third meeting of English for Teacher presents Mr. Urip Hidayat S.Pd or Mr Urip as the speaker and Poppy Meka, M.Pd. as the moderator. The theme of the material is very interesting for the participants. It is about Learning English with Music and Songs.

Talking about music and songs make me in blue. I like music and songs but I can not sing 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭. I like the way Mr. Urip gave warming up before starting the material. He invited all the participants to sing together. Of course this activity was fun. It can be applied in the real class not only for English class but also for whole class. You can find songs related with the topic of the material and create several kinds of task from the songs or the music. By doing this your classroom atmosphere will be more lifely and the lesson is meaningful.

Mr. Urip also told about his experiences when learning English at the first time. He tried to motivate and burn participants interest by telling how he learnt English in the past. His story was a process and stage to catch his dream. Now, you can see how great his English is!

Music and songs is a strategy which can be applied by the teacher in teaching learning process Generally.  English is one lesson can be taught through music and songs. Why music? The reason is music and songs  can influence students' soul and enthusiastic. 

Murphey in Neil says that songs are be able help young students to improve their English skills especially listening and pronunciation and potentially it can improve their speaking. Not only that, songs are also can be useful in teaching vocabularies, sentence structures, and sentence patterns without mention their reflectivity of mother tongue. The main goal of teaching English is communication, through songs teacher is be able to create good condition in persuading students to speak up.

Then Larry M. Lynch says there are nine reasons why teach English Foreign Language use songs, they are 1) Songs almost always contain authentic, natural language. 2) A variety of new vocabulary can be introduced to students through songs. 3) Songs are usually very easily obtainable. 4) Songs can be selected to suit the needs and interests of the students. 5) Grammar and cultural aspects can be introduced through songs. 6) Time length is easily controlled. 7) Students can experience a wide range of accents. 8) Song lyrics can be used in relating to situations of the world around us. 9) Students think songs are natural and fun.

It is clearly that there many advantages of using music and songs in teaching English the classroom.

In his presentation, Mr Urip also showed some tasks. The tasks were created from choice songs. Of course the teacher should be selected songs which relates with the topic or theme so the goals of aims of the lesson gained.

Thank you for interesting material, Mr. Urip. By applying music and songs in the classroom, teaching learning process will be fun and enjoyable.

Imperative Sentence

 

Being late is better than nothing

Suddenly, the quote "Being late is better than nothing" comes to my mind when I am going to write my second resume this morning December, 5th 2021 while sitting on a chair in a hospital. I open and learn Ms. Ang materials.

Again and again I did not join English For Teacher Class. What was the reason? The reason was schedule EFT class was the same with schedule of my husband going to the hospital for staying. There were many things should be done. Waiting in long queue, filling in forms, and waiting for staff hospital guide. Actually, the operator of the hospital called us at eleven  in the morning. She informed us to come at four o'clock. That's why I missed the class.

I am disappointed because of missing the second meeting, eventhough my decision is not wrong. It is about choice. Then I opened  and read WhatsApp messages and starred the materials in the group. I just talked to myself, if I had enough time I would read, learn, and write a resume.

From the materials, I conclude that there are two points, first tebak kata (guessing word) and second English for teaching class: utterances and simple sentence.

What I write today is pure my thought in my imagination. 🤭🤭🤭 Starting from tebak kata (guessing word). Why did Ms. Ang give us the topic? According to my opinion, tebak kata is a way to persuade and motivate students to stay and feel save in English class. It is such a game. The game will attract students' interest and create fun and  happy class. The game makes good class atmosphere. By doing this, the students feel relax and finally positive toxic comes to their mind, English is interesting and easy to learn. Tebak kata is one of ice breaking. It is really a good way to raise the students' concentration and focus and it makes them out of their bad mood. I can imagine how interesting and active class with Ms. Ang!

The next session, MS. Ang presents materials. Starting with utterance. What is utterance? Utterance is a word, phrase, even a sentence  of someone verbally. Let's see the example below:

Situation: My father bought me a beautiful dress.

To show her thanking to the father, the daughter says:

Then, Ms. Ang comes to the second part "how is using simple sentence at the classroom" it is about imperative Sentence.

Imperative Sentence is a type of sentence to express command, request, and instruction. This material is also I have been taught to my students, if we design the lesson well, teaching learning process will be lifely and attracting. I am sure how crowded and active the class with Ms. Ang! Unlucky, I could not join the class.

Finally, I can finish my second resume without participating in the classroom. Everyone has ability to explore and share their knowledge. Everyone has different way to express her feeling. Practice And Drill Is The Secret

Work hard is the key of success 

It is the first day of English for Teacher program. I don't join zoom meeting because two reasons. My first reason is I forget the schedule and the second I am very buzy in the hospital to take care of my husband's administration for staying. When I take a rest after arriving "Rumah Singgah", I check whatsapp messages. I am surprised because EFT programs is in progress. I join the zoom at  04.45 PM. I know I am late but I try to follow the last minutes of the programs. Ten or fifteen minutes before the zoom ends, I am sleepy. I don't know the materials of the day, because I miss everything. I just say thank you for EFT team who has sent the materials in WAG so I can read it. Eventhough I don't understand, I have effort to finish my resume.

The speaker of the program is a young-talented girl, she is  Asdin Herzegovina who called Ms. Vina. She presents about Basic English (Self Introduction). There are six points in her teaching,  they are  disclaimers, speaker's introduction, all about mindset , basic English, self introduction and practice drill. 

I start to write my resume from number three, "all about mindset" I agree with the speaker if we want change our live we have to change our mindset. Success comes  due to our work hard. To reach the success, you have to change your style of live, you have to fight, you must think what to do, you have to keep the best strategy to reach the target. Light your inner strengt, motivate yourself, be optimist and positive thinking and never compare yourself with others. If you do that, you will be yourself and you believe you can.

There are several ways to improve our ability in English both orally and written. They are word memorizing, grammar learning, English course participating, academic learning achieving, even staying abroad. Just remember, learning must be fun. Do simple activities which suit you, so it makes you learning by doing, practicing, and exciting. If you only see and hear,  you will forget, but if you do, you will remember.

Many important news deliver by her. When you want to master English you have to know and create good habit in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The four skills will determine how far we undestan English itself. The key of mastering the four skills is practice and drill. Eventhough the focus of English lesson is  communication, we must not be  neglect the grammar.

Then, the most important lesson today is introducing self. Well, ladies and gentlemen, in this occasion, I would like to introduce myself. I am Okmi Astuti from Pangkalpinang Bangka Belitung Island. I am an English teacher. I have some hobies. They are reading novels, travelling, sports and now I try to write something in a day. Writing is become my new hobby since I joined writing class on March 2021, I made a commitment to make writing is habit and menulis sepanjang hayat. It is my Motto and spirit for myself. I have three children, abang is 8 years old, Kakak is 4 years old, and Adek is 3 years old. My husband works as teacher as well. That is my brief self introduction, thank you. 

Introducing self and others is one of English material that I must be taught at school. The students are asked to practice self and others introduction after they understand the way and know related vocabulary. They are also asked to write self introduction both in short dialogues and a text. 

Because English is a foreign language, make the students find difficulties in learning. After giving explanation, motivation, and support, they try to speak up.

I hope English for Teacher Program really help us in improving our English. Thank you PGRI, Thank you EFT teams.
